Messed up VAF

Post by 2zzlift »

Well I bought a 93 mx3 sohc for a few hundred dollars. It ran ok when I bought it but it had a little hesitation, rough idle, etc. So I ran a little seafoam through the brake booster and after that it ran better but still had a strange idle. It was dark out and I decided to to clean the MAF, not realizing it's not a MAF like on my toyota. So long story short, I didn't remove that clip and just pulled on the thing with all the terminals, and I have no clue what broke and what goes where.

I popped off the top on the VAF and with the help of the old owner, got it, to what appears, back to normal. Now the car will not go much higher than 3.5k and smells of strong gas.

Not sure what to do. Oh and I should mention I messed with the isc screw on top of the throttle body a little.

what did you do to the VAF? What exactly came out of what?

Well it sits on top of the airbox, I wanted to remove it because I thought it would be like an MAF. I pulled it to hard and some terminals broke or something.
If someone could just post up a pic of their VAF/VAM internals, that would be great. Oh and the car will start and run without a VAF as long as you run a jumper from pin E1 to FC which bypasses the fuel pump safety feature mazdas have.
