MX3 gods, please help me...

Post by PilotSmack89 »

Hi everyone. I've scoured the forums to find something like this, but i think I have a new problem here...

So my idle sits around 600 - 650... i went through the following steps:

Start her up, warm her to normal operating temperature
Shut down
Jumped GND and TEN with a paperclip
Start engine, adjust screw to desired RPM (i wanted to set 800, so i did that)
It ran fine, so I pulled the paperclip out, she immediately drops to ~500 for approx 10 secs
Turned it off.
Started again, rpm @ 600...

Am i doing something wrong? Or is something broke?

I'm sorry I'm confused... What exactly is wrong with your car? Idle is supposed to be right around 600.

The idle usually drops once you exit diagnostic mode, so you set it a couple hundred rpm's higher than your target.

Ha that's funny. With the V6 we set it at 650 and it goes to 700 out of diag mode. The opposite of the BP.

Lol... yeah, i was reading the manual on the engine, and everywhere i read suggests 750-800 for the B6, so i was working on attaining that... i'll try setting her a little higher tomorrow. Thanks for the help :D

Tried it again today - same thing happened :(

set idle RPM to be 1000, pulled the paperclip, shut down the engine. started it up again, and it went to 1000 for about 5 seconds before reverting to 600 and sounding like it was gunna die...

Your not supposed to pull the paperclip out while the engine is running you have to shut it down the pull it out. Its kinda like By-passing the electronics to manually adjusting the idle without the computer knowing.

So in a continuing fit of weirdness, on the drive to work, the idle was still 600.... 11 hours later on the drive home, the idle was 850, but dropped to 700 when i was in neutral with the clutch out :?

I am so confused lol
