whats this pipe?

Post by Pedro_mx3 »

its on the rear "axle" if thats what you would call it, a rubber hose connected to a white plastic nipple going into the axle. Theres another white nipple next to it and theres no hose on taht 1, this is on the passenger side of the car.

When i put my new fual tank on today i noticed it was snapped off at the white nipple.

What is it an shud i be worried/pissed off its broken.

Cheers Pete

I know which piece you're talking about. It's a white nipple sticking out of the rear cross-member on the driver's side, facing towards the front of the car. I have no idea what it is either, but it has a rubber hose that connects to some sort of solenoid in the back end of the car. It makes no sense to me either. It doesn't seem to show it in the online manual.

Well you can pull the rest of it out of the cross-member if you're careful. It's clipped in there like any of the other clips on the car.

I think a good way would be to warm it up a little with a heat gun, just so the plastic isn't too brittle, then gently pry it out with a flat-blade screwdriver. You can get a replacement from a wrecked MX-3, and that's where you'd wanna be really careful removing it.

I'm still curious to know what the heck that little system is for...

I think that little system may have something to do with the fuel and emission control. I'm not sure, but I think that little solenoid type thing that I was talking about that has the hose that runs to that little white nipple among other parts, may be the check valve or the check and cut valve. These parts are responsible for controlling the pressure inside the fuel tank, and making sure that fuel doesn't flow into the charcoal canister.

Again, I'm not sure that this is what this system is, it's just an educated guess.

ok so gluing the nipple back together is out of the question then? if it requires a small amount of pressurisation?
