Dollar bill in the gas tank myth!!

Post by Mx3Kid16 »

If you put a dollar bill in the gas tank of a vehicle will this cause a very annoying coming and going stalling issue with the vehicle? and sense the dollar bill is made of cotton and hemp it wont dissolve?

Anybody heard of this?

Sounds like BS to me. #1 Gasoline is more dense than water, so if the bill floats in water it will in gas. This would stop it from hitting the pump inlet at the bottom of the tank.

#2 have you ever poured gas on your pants and they dissolved off? Haha.... No. It would break down eventually, but gasoline is non-polar(or is it semi-polar? I forget), so only some things dissolve in it. I'm not sure how corrosive it is, I wouldn't think very... Its just volatile and readily combusts...

I'd think its a challenge to even get the bill down there. Seen that hole? Its not a straight drop to the tank either.

Why, now you've been keyed, you think someone stuffed bills into your gas tank? Do you make enemies daily?

Donate your car to the local cops to park around town and watch for a week or so. Seems to be a target.

my buddies car had this problem and when we took out the sending unit assembly there was a cigarette plastic wrapper that was blocking the feed line to the fuel pump. car ran good but if you stomped on it the car would bog. after removing the plastic the car was titties. never had the problem again. that was the first and last time i seen something like that.
