Traction kills me, too. A good driver could get my car into the 13s, but my best was 14.7.
If you don't want to spend $$ on tires, I would lower the front psi. to about 27, and raise the rear to 50, just at the track. Try launching at about 2,000rpm, then push it. I spend about .7 seconds spinning the tire, no matter what I do.

13's would be hard with a na ze. 14.5 is around what a healthy ze would run.

now some slicks and a LSD is a different story.

True...
However, my built DE is about 16WHP more than a strong ZE with intake/ exhaust, etc.. and that's with Ethanol in the gas (FTL), and running very rich. LSD is on the way, though.
I spent about 2 seconds spinning the tire on my 14.7 run with CJthor. It's in this video:

Have you done a compression test? 89mph is a little low for a healthy KLDE (and modded like yours) in a (throwing a wild guess here) 2600 lb car with you in it.

How long is a peice of string.

14.5 for a daily driver is not shabby considering the gross weight of a 323/protege is
just over the 1000kg mark.

One low cost feature that will lower your times is travel limit straps on the front suspension.
stops you popping the front of the car up getting out of the hole and transfering all that to the
back of the car removing weight off the front wheels..
