BP-DE and G-series into RS, use K clutch and pressure plate?

Post by Towona »

Intro: I'm putting a BP-DE and G-series trans from an Escort GT into a 93 RS.

From Gro Harlem's swap guide:

---------------
There are 5 different sized clutches worth noting that can be used on these engines. Here is the list:

B3-E: 7 1/8" Clutch Disc, 18-spline shaft, 3/4" hub
B6-E & B6-ME: 7 1/2" Clutch Disc, 20-spline shaft, 7/8" hub
B6-DE & B8-ME: 7 7/8" Clutch Disc, 20-spline shaft, 7/8" hub
BP-ZE & K8-DE: 8 1/2" Clutch Disc, 22-spline shaft, 15/16" hub
2.0 SPI (From 97+ Escort) & KL-DE (Probe GT, MX-6 LS): 8 7/8" Clutch Disc, 22-spline shaft, 15/16" hub

The 20-spline shaft clutches are for F-series transmissions only. You *should* be able to use the bigger-sized clutch on a B6-E or B6-ME flywheel for more clutch holding power, although it has not been confirmed. The 22-spline shaft clutches are for G-series transmissions only. You can use the bigger-sized 8 7/8" clutch from the Ford Probe / Escort on a stock BP-ZE flywheel for more clutch holding power.

The flywheels from all B-series engines will interchange with one another and use 6-bolts to secure them to the crankshaft. K-series V6 engines use a 8-bolt flywheel and thus are not interchangable

--------------

According to this, I can use the 8 7/8" clutch disc for my BP/G-series setup. However, there is no mention of pressure plate compatability. Can I also use the pressure plate from the KL-DE or do I have to mix the KL-DE disc with the BP-DE plate? Thanks in advance.

PS:

Can I swap my fuel rail and injectors from the B6-ME onto the ford BP-DE (I read the ford rail design sucks...?) or do I need the fuel rail / injectors from a mazda BP-DE?

PSS:

Is the rear disc setup from the escort GT compatible with the RS?

Injectors, yes.
Rail, no.

I grabbed the rail from a Protege when I did my swap. It put the lines where they needed to be. What ecu are you going to use? Ditch that pos B6 distributor and use the Escort GT's distributor. It will wire up. See my post about it.

I just did a BP swap in my RS a week ago. =) I used the Escort clutch. Autozone $99 for the whole kit. It holds an na motor just fine.

Thanks for the input. I guess I'll have to grab that 98 protege's fuel rail I saw at the PnP.

I got the Escort's ECU (the box under the driver's seat... please tell me I grabbed the right box) and distributor.

Speaking of wiring, I understand there's three wires that need to be run from the ECU. Do you have any details on these? Thanks.

As for the clutch... I ultimately want to turbo this engine, so I think an ugraded clutch now will save me some $ down the road.

hi i found on this page that... b type flywheels are interchangeable im just asking for a conformation on this ... so a b6 sohc flywheel will interchange with a b6 dohc right

the sohc 1.6 flywheel dowel pins are different than that of a DOHC 1.6 flywheel.. the clutch disc form a dohc is a bit bigger than that of a sohc clutch disc.. same goes for the pressure plate from a dohc compared to a sohc one..

can u use a sohc clutch kit on a dohc yes u can along as u use the sohc flywheel as well.. flywheel ill bolt up to the dohc crank.. the clutch disc from a sohc and dohc are both a 20 spline...

as for the g-series trans u have to use a bp flywheel clutch disc and pressure plate..

a bp flywheel and a klde pressure plate will not interchange but hey don't take my word for it find out the hard way..

the fuel rail form a b6-me will not match up on a bp-de

Basically you need to use the flywheel that matches the trans. If you stuck with the b6 trans, you'd use the b6 flywheel on the bp, g series trans from the escort gt, you use a bp flywheel. You cant use the b6 fuel rail on a bp but a little bit of modding I'm pretty sure you can use a b8 fuel rail which will save you from looking for a mazda bp one and they are alot easier to find (90-94 proteges).
