knock knock knock!!. Air Intake!! WTF is this hole for

So I have been searching for a mx-3 for 3 months now and my friend just got his rx-7 written off. What does the bastard come home with today. 94 silver mx-3. lol.

He bought it for cheep but it had an immaculate interior. I opened the hood and what did I see.


I saw the oil and new this baby needed some quick tlc. We went down to the autoparts store and grabbed some new valve cover gaskets(Front and rear) plus some sealant and paint.

Also, his air intake obviously has a leak as person before put sealant all over the bendable tube. The car jumps about 200rmps every 5 seconds or so and feels like knocking in the engine. Do you guys agree its an air intake problem?

Once we installed the new valves it went away for about 2 hours then the knocking cam back . Only thing I can think of is the intake right now..The new intake is ordered in and will be here next week.

I only had 2 hours so I wasn't going to do the rears. Will do those on the weekend.

SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THIS WHOLE(bottom cam). It was caked with dirt/oil. I tried digging it out but it must of got 4 inches deep with gunk and I couldn't get any deeper. ????? What is this mystery hole?








And everything booted up OK :>....Going for an oil change flush.

So what do you guys think about the knocking and mystery hole?

Yea I never really paid attention to that.. I think it is just a passageway for oil or vapor to get around

The picture I saw of your KLZE was clean(Can't find the picture now). This hole was empty and I could see a little hole in the bottom . Did know if this was blocking something or not.

no. its a hex bolt yes, but it does not need to be removed to take the heads off.

Yea, the head bolts are collared 12 sided bolts, they are all under the cams, you can just see the half on one to the right of the hex head on the 3rd pic.

I tried removing the IM today and I thought I got eveybolt and it seemed realy lose, but I couldn't pull it off on the back? |Is there a secrect screw I couldn't find? I tried looking on the online manual but had no success. Any pointers/directs for removing the IM properly?

Beside the EGR there is a bracket with 2 12mm bolts. Its about a 2.5" bracket that holds the IM on. Check for it, closer to the drivers side.

The knocking that you are talking about, your not getting it confused with HLA ticking are you???

Once I fix the intake I will post again to see if the problem is resolved or not. Have to wait a week for ebay to ship :>
