mx-3 compatible with other mazda models?

Post by blink_2009 »

I have been searching for parts around my area and things are coming up kinda tight. im going new for all performance but its the smaller internal stuff i have been having problems with. Window motors and console pieces door switches, etc. Im curious if the mx-3 is compatible with other models like the 626,323 and the like? Have found a ton of these cars in the same year as mine. Looking to rebuild and kick up the engine and tranny also, would i be able to use from any of these other models. fairly new to imports i admit. but the more i find out about them the more i am loving em!!! thanks for any and all input.

We don't share an interior with any car, but protege's and 323's are most compatible. I believe proteges are actually on the same chassis, and the subframes are the main difference.

It the early yrs (92-93) the MX3 somewhat shared a similar dash as the Escort, Protege, 323. Some console pieces do work. The suspension is the same as Escort, 323, and Protege.
But you can swap anything really and make it work between these cars... just not the door panels. I was the first to do the 94 Dash swap in an Escort and it worked!

So I have to reupholster everything in my car... I'm not putting the MX-3 front seats back in, as I have a big a--, and the a-- rash on the seat seems to be a huge issue  so those I will probably do aftermarket...

My issue is the back seat. I really, really need to be able to put 3 seat belts in the back. Unfortunately I have 3 kids and hate sedans and all things 5+ seats and so does my husband (who drives a GTO our "family car" was traded in for it recently).

Anyone got any ideas for this? I thought about just shaving the "hump" down on the current seat when I re-cover it ... I really like that wrap around cloth and hate to lose that look by replacing the seat. But anything beats buying a fing mini van.

a good upholsterer can do magic. but it ain't cheap.
94' RS/GS/MS/CF Monster Turbo...coming soon.
93' GS SE, the Black Beast, the former love of my life...soon to be gutted and crushed.
94' GS, black on black, now in several small pieces...and one large crushed piece.

but is there a bench seat that will fit in the back of the mx3 out of another car? all I need is the bottom half really.

we usually only have 2 of the kids with us by the way, so its not like we ride around 24/7 like a can of sardines LOL!

people put MX3 rear seats into 323's, so I'm sure the 323 one fits into MX's... but it will look like crap. Also, doesn't solve the seatbelt problem. Get the baby hook maybe

Interior door handles swap for the miata ones that look just like it (they are chrome and look way nicer). A search will tell you which years.

Personally, I have the 94+ seats, only because I had them from my first mx3 and they were in such poor shape I re-did them in leather. They don't hug you as much, but they allow for bigger butts and actually sit lower than the earlier style ones. (Tho I'm 5'9" and 160lbs so I dont need it lol)

Visors from proteges swap. Couple other cars too, can't remember which. Still havn't found OEM black ones that fit, unfortunately.

What about MX6 front seats into an MX3? There's a minty pair at the wreckers here and they're black to match the MX3 black interior. Very similar in appearance to the 92 seats
2004 Subaru WRX Silver, stage 2, minty interior.
2002 Subaru WRX Blue, SOLD (best E test numbers I've ever seen)
94 MX-6. Sold
92 GS KLZE 5 Speed
96 GS 5 speed, KLZE, Sold
95 GS Minty Shape Sold
92 GS Sold
92 GS Parts Car scrapped.
