Re: oil problem on my fast car! Help please!

Post by Mooneggs »

yeah I made sure the negative battery cable was connected tight but I am pretty sure that the cause of everything is the power tower sticking out of the distributor cap - looks like it is separated a tad...

anyways finally got the thing to start so I drove it home... I'll work on it saturday and get it all figured out and then life will be peachy again lol

onlytrueromeo wrote:Sometimes its the simple things...I was having problems with my car randomly not starting, not turning over or anything...I thought it was the battery, so I switched batteries w/ my extra one and it worked fine, til one day I got the same thing...

Turns out my negative battery connector was slightly loose and even though was on the metal, wasn't making sufficient contact! Tightened it down and have not had a problem since!

I had the same problem! I would pop my hood, wiggle the neg terminal, and try again. voila. I bought a new terminal recently... $3.

so I figured instead of starting a new post since this is one long chain of problems I'll continue here... It's sad that this was started back in October and I'm still workin on it in February, but I'm lazy and a slacker :D

SOOO... I still cannot get the DD to keep running. I worked on it again today trying to troubleshoot but I just have no idea :crying: Basically what it is doing now: I can start it fine, it revs real high then cuts off... Earlier today I was able to keep it running long enough to move parking spots... I feel like such a noob for not being able to figure this out... :?

Here's what I know:

MSD Blaster coil is fine
JE50 is fine
TPS is fine
7 nipple disti cap and rotor are fine
HEI main wire from blaster to disti is fine
HEI ignition module??
Hei wiring??

I don't want to read through 4 pages again so.....

I don't think it'd be the HEI unless it were over heating. It sounds more like a fuel or air issue. Does it sound like its choking? Does it sputter before it dies? You think it could be getting TOO much air or fuel? Try it w/ the IAC unplugged if you haven't already and make sure your butterfly is working!

Check the plugs to your fuel rails! Heck, check for codes!

Don't know if any of that will help, I always forget the basics and try to move to harder things.

update...

Dana and Jesse came over and looked at it... we are thinking maybe it is the ignition control module so I've ordered one and should be here tomorrow... probably won't install it until the weekend - there is now light at the end of the tunnel... maybe

okay all help me trouble shoot!!! when the car is dead cold it runs pretty good. but!!! when it starts to warm up heading to closed loop it freaks out erratic idle then all together you hit the throttle and does not recognize inputs from the tps to give more fuel and just stays the same 1500 rpm even at wot (wide open throttle). rpm and engine revs do not change. thinking maybe ecu or control module :?: cant remember if it has a probenator if so this is the second failed attempt on marks second mx3

I've eliminated the possibility of these:

Distributor is good
Ignition control module is good
MSD blaster 2 coil is good
plug wires are good
JE50 MAF is good

next to test is the ECU and the fuel system (filter, pump, etc.)
