What is that?
Hi guys,
does anybody know, what the marked part in the picture is for?
Is it a control-unit of the cruise control?
Thank you for helping!

Re: What is that?
It's not dealing with cruise control... I think that is a euro only part... you have a 97 mx-3? maybe it is something to do with airbags or lighting?

Re: What is that?
Yaeh, we have a discussion in our german MX-3-Community about mounting a cruise control of a US-MX-3 into a german MX-3.
This picture is from a german MX-3-driver who drives an imported US-MX-3 with cruise control.

Re: What is that?
I am going to install cruise control in EU MX-3 V6 and there's nothing like that mentioned in wiring diagrams or list of CC parts anywhere. So I think it has nothing to do with cruise control kit, it looks like relay for something, but I don't think CC kit needs relay, according to MX-3 wiring diagrams.
Anyway "This picture is from a german MX-3-driver who drives an imported US-MX-3 with cruise control" doesn't mean it is a part of CC kit.

MX-3-Tom:
I was trying to find this part in EPC, but I didn't find it. Try to call your local Mazda dealer and ask for part with number:
BR86-67-701A
"A" means it is modified, so it should be in some older models as well, or another Mazda models.

Re: What is that?
Thats the DRL - Daytime Running Lights module - it is basically a huge resistor that is used to supply half power to the headlights (high beam filament) during the day (or when the headlights are switched off). It is a safety feature mandated in Canada - some US cars also have it.

Re: What is that?
I looked carefully at mine today and if you look at it it's just basically a big heat sink. Can't tell what's going on inside but i figured some current was being dissipated through it.

They don't turn off and on, they're just always on at a reduced power, unless you pull the e-brake up, then they shut off.Mooneggs wrote:no way - we have tunnels here and I don't want my lights coming on and off - I want to have complete control of my lights...
