Starter Problem (Need Your Advise)

Post by Mark2611 »

Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my 93 MX-3 (4 cyl) that some of you might have encountered before. A week ago the garagist told me that the ground for my starter needed to be replaced (he said it is corroded or damaged and that it won’t last a month). I have looked in the shop manual on this site (pages G1 to G6 and G33 to G39) and found that 3 wires are connected to the starter-solenoid assembly (B, S and M). B and S seemed to be the live wires coming from the battery. So I thing that the ground wire is the short length wire (maybe only a few inch) connecting the solenoid terminal M to the inside body of the starter (according to bottom picture of page G-33). Am I right? I have tried to look at it but without success because the starter is well hidden between the firewall and the engine. Is that a messy job to do myself? (it looked like I have to remove a lot of components to reach the starter).
Thank you for your attention
Any comments are welcome.
Mark
