Running with No power steering

Post by wilko33 »

a quick question really, IF i were to take off the belt to the power steering pump so the power steering was not connected would the steering systejm be damaged or would it still work?

Obviously I know there steering would be MUCH heavier but I am having problems with the seal and until I get it sorted I dont want to run the pump dry and blow it if it leaks badly and runs out of fluid mid journey.

It was full, has leaked a patch whilst I was at work but then driving home has not leaked at all.

If you have a v6 then i am pretty sure your power steering and water pump are run off the same belt, at least mine is. If this is the case and you take the belt off and try to drive it than you will OVERHEAT and damage your engine if not blow it up. I wouldn't reccommend trying to take the belt off, instead keep it full or run with no fluid and possibly messing up your power steering pump instead of the engine.
