CEL wiring

Post by escortluver19 »

I just finished up my KLDE swap in my escort.I want to hook up a CEL in the car since i dont have a stock cluster anymore.Would i be able to just find the correct output for the CEL on the ecu and wire in a 12V LED light and ground it of course? If so, can anybody tell me what the the wire color is as well as which connector on the ecu it is? Ive been searching in my manual along with the online manual and i cant figure it out.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Oo, that would be nice, but I bet tricky. It would easier to wire up the diagnostic box I would think since the wiring should be easier to find a diagram for. Otherwise a stock DE motored car's cluster should show you the wire colors, then look at the same cars ECU to find the corresponding pins.

well what i did was, i looked up the CEL input on the ecu.It says pin 1E which is a grey/red stripe wire on the second biggest connnector. So i tap spliced the positive side of the LED to that wire and grounded the LED but nothing happened.Im thinking either its not gunna work,it isnt connected good enough,or i dont have a CEL to check.I know my car isnt running right but maybe its not throwing a code quite yet.

Try reversing the polarity - most of the ECU output is ground switched - means it outputs a ground - so you have to put the led between the ecu and a positive 12v source.
