putting cruise in 92 rs

Post by delpy32 »

i have a 1992 mx-3 rs and i was wandering if you could get any aftermarket cruise control assemblies that i can put in...i love my mx-3 and i do alot of highway miles and its just easier... if i cant find something ill have to give it up...i saw a couple piggyback assemblies on e-bay (290095480201) and they say that they are unversal but you can never trust the uneversal things...
anything would work...not worried bout looks i can custom fab something... my dad works at a machine show and MAKES parts for cars all the time...mostly older type model a's and stuff so i think he could make something for me...
thanks

If its an option at all - you can go to a junkyard and rip out the cruise control system & harness from a junked mx3. That would be the cleanest way to install.
I have a 95 protege as a parts car and i am thinking of ripping out the cruise control system from that car - if it succeeds i will write a small howto about it.

It wont be easy as a breeze - if thats what you are thinking. I dont know if we have to swap harnesses or the existing harness already has connection etc. The main parts required will be the buttons on the steering wheel and cruise control on/off switch (on the dash), cruise control computer and the vaccum actuator under the hood. Installing all these hardware is very easy - wiring is the trickiest part.....

I know this is an old post, but did you guys do this? I would like to have cruise control to keep me out of trouble on the highway  I have a line on a complete system, and I am good with wiring.
