Temp Gauge Problem

Post by Mx3_Granny »

92 MX3 1.6L Auto

I just fixed my Mother in law's mx3, she had a bad distributor. While putting the new disty in I busted the temp sensor at the thermostat just below the disty. Okay, so I went to the parts store with the busted part and they matched it. At least I think they did.

I put the new one in and the gauge reads full hot no matter what the temp of the engine. With key off it is down at cold. I then shorted the wire that attaches to this sender to ground and the cooling fan came on but the guage stayed the same at full hot. Now I am wondering if the part I busted is just a fan switch and that the temp sender is in another location.

I could use some help in finding where the sender is, and what is the part number? I tried seaching and found some info, but still dont know where to look and what part numbers are.

Thanks!

I found what I was looking for. The gauge sender is the little guy in the front of the block to the right of the exhaust manifold. I had disconnected the wire somehow. Put the wire back on and the gauge works fine. So the part I busted was obviously the fan temp switch.
