Should I get a straight cat off ebay or try finding a bolt on aftermarket elsewhere?

In other words while the cat keeps some pollutants from coming out the tail pipe, keep in mind that doesn't mean they don't exist, when the car dies or the cat is pulled, it goes to a scrap yard or a dump and guess where those pollutants are going to be, released... in the end the pollution angle results in an argument of when the pollution will be released.
Energy cannot be created or destroyed - true. But energy can be coverted into some other form (like an electric motor that converts electric energy to mechanical energy). The catalytic "converter" does not store polluting emissions - it "converts" them to non harmful or inert substances that can be safely decomposed. It is ludicrous to even think that a catalytic converter stores up all the emissions and releases it all when junked.

Either way, this was not posted as an argument on emissions, but I'm gonna go in favor of the race gods for now as I am setting this thing up for auto cross. I'll have to get the proper set up when it is more within my financial reach. might set up a flowmaster set with a high flow cat and a one in two out 40 series for the back.

you will love the straight pipe... i didnt' header back piping and my friend at firstone tested emissions (even though i don't have to since i live in a county where they don't check) and the difference after removing cat was actually pretty small, but the gas difference was about 1-2 mpg depending on my driving.... as to that environmental crud they feed you don't buy it, less than 50 years ago they thought we were entering an ice age now they think global warming... they just want something for the public to freak out about and a way to charge us more money for stuff
