interchangeable 02 sensors

Post by 92MX3black »

I've been reading through many post and have come to start my own post on this. I have a 92 GS mx-3 and recently pulled codes from the car. It needs 2 new 02 sensors. So i was like no problem, until i priced them. $250 for 1 and $260 for the other!! WTF.. I also have a Mustang and they cost $65 each. I am not going to pay over $500 for 02s for a car worth like $1200. So my question is- Will the Ford Probe, of the same year, 02 sensors work on this mazda. And if now what is a cheaper alternative because knowing this car is over 10 years old and the junkyards are probably full of crappy 02s also. Please help a fellow mx3 owner!!

You can get a 4 wire universal one. I purchased 2 off of ebay for like 45 shipped. All Mazda K series 1.8 and 2.5's are interchangeable.

So what your saying is that anything mazda makes with a 1.8 or 2.5 engines can work with one another??? my next question would be, since the mazda 02 sensors for this car are soo expensive does that mean that mazdas 02s for other cars are going to be the same expensive price???

Its pretty simple

Id have to look up the colors which match up to which, but basically you removed the original o2 and the harness from the bay, offset the cutting of the wires so you have no risk of cross wire touching, and splice. Then put it back in the exhaust header, and plug it up.
