Jerking problem - Probably engine/tranny mounts are bad.
Not shifting properly - probably low ATF level and needs fluid/filter change.

make sure you have run it through all the gears and then back into park before you check it. It's best if the car has been driven and is up to opperating temp

Tranny fluid has to be checked when the engine is upto operating temparature - as twoie said - drive around the car for a bit till the temp needle is at the normal (halfway) level - park on a level surface and shift through all the gears (i think the manual says something like stay in each gear for about 10 seconds or maybe a minute - i cant remember). Then put it in "park" and check the fluid (the engine should be running) - take out the dipstick - wipe it off with a clean towel or tissue and put it back in - take it out again to see the level. My tranny was overfilled (above the full level) and it had some erratic shifting. I drained it and it was smooth for a while and then started acting up again. I got a fluid/filter change and things became a lot smoother. I also upgraded to custom ground wires and a 90 amp alternator which i think would have some beneficial effect on tranny operation. But i did see a consistent shifting pattern after i just changed the mounts.
