ZX2 Strut conversion question

Post by corbanbrook »

My rear stuts are done and I need them replaced fairly soon.

Wondering about the ZX-3 struts and how they compare to stock?

What are the best springs to use with them?

Is it advisable to do both front and back struts or can I just do the back for now and hold off doing the front?

Will the recomended springs and zx3 strut combo be harder or softer suspension then stock?

How much money am i looking at for ea zx3 strut?

the answers have been posted several times, but i'll get ya started...

1. They are better than stock in regards to performance. They are a Ford RACING product

2. best springs would be the ZX2 Eibach springs, they are designed specifically for the struts, but MX3 H&R's work well too.

3. yes, do all 4

4. stiffer than stock

5. all 4 ZX2 struts run about $150

You don't HAVE to replace the front at the same time, but the Ford Racing ZX2 struts come in a set of 4, so you're going to buy them all at the same time anyways.

it looks like after you purchase the struts you need to invest about $400 more in aditional crap. SO if i could do the back first it would help a little for budgetting.

All you really NEED to invest in is two ZX2 bearings for the front, and a 22mm metal drill bit to bore out the upper perches. Shouldn't be any more than $30-$40.

May I aslo add that you should look over the condition of your bumpstop and your dust boots. If you need new ones, get them. No use in wrecking your new struts. Oh and its ZX-2 (escort) not ZX-3 (focus).

400's in extra crap? What are you talking about. Unless you include springs, than yes. But not including springs, you only need about 150 worth of extra stuff (2 thrust bearings, 4 dust boots, drill bit). And then springs are 350 for the eibach prokit.

Also, i recomend the mx-3 eibach springs, for they work better. Read this thread for information http://www.mx-3.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=49382 about which springs.
