Playful stickshift

Post by Meanie »

Get your mind out of th gutter with that subject line  My stickshift has become very loose in the last few years. When in gear, I can move it back and forth about 3 to 4 inches. The shifting hasn't been effected at all, and I wouldn't really be concerned about the play but now, at higher speeds, it rattles or more so, causes a loud buzzing sound. Therefore, it's time I resolve the problem.

So my question is...has anyone experienced this before or have an idea on the fix ? I'm assuming something fairly simple such as the bushings, but am hoping for someone with first hand experience.

Any help appreciated.

Thank you.

Thanks for the replies. Where do we access the bushings? Under the car or inside with the boot and center console removed?

Thanks

Gro Harlem has an excellent HOWTO on the subject on his website:
