I think he used the 323 GTX stuff. I haven't seen it done for a V6 yet. I'd love to try that, but it's probably way too expensive.

I did the mechanical conversion several years ago. I was given the running gear from a BG AWD back in 1998 and a friends company imports wrecked and insurance write off cars from the States. They had 20 imported (US) MX-3 so we took an insurance write off with no interior or engine and bolted all the AWD hardware on this chassis. I had a AWD ATX from the BG but one of the local JDM shop had a bunch of G25MX-R laying around they were give away for scrap metal. All that was needed was a engine. I was offered a '95 BP with 20000km on it but never had time to pick it up. Unfortunately due work and family related events it was never completed. Someone in QC or ON probably bought the car for parts and thinks it is a rare AWD MX-3 that was sold in the US.

so are you saying you bolted the AWD hardwear in to the MX3? the rear end bolted up with no problems? the engine cradel bolted up?Yoda wrote:I did the mechanical conversion several years ago. i did alot of sourcing and i mean ALOT and their isnt a Mazda rear end with a diff that will just bolt up to the MX3. besides if their was then the rear sub rails would have to be beefed up a little bit, stock they would colaps under the torque. and from what iv found is all MX3's are made off of the same chassis.

just got back from canada with my gtr rear... going to do a test fit as soon as we get the mx3 to my friends house.... the guy i bought it off of said he swapped a precidia and pro rear end directly once.... so if both are bg chasis why wouldn't they be swappable? seems odd that mazda would make the mx-3 skinnier than all the other models plus how did he swap the precidia and pro rears?

just heard back from eugen ... he put the rear subframe from a precidia gs onto a 1991 protege GT without a problem... no modifications at all ... so seems like this shouldn't be too hard.... we'll find out i guess.. either way it won't be that hard

but the thing is it was a FWD not an AWD. the FWD rear ends are swapable, but the AWD platform cars run a totally different rear subframe.projectmx wrote:just heard back from eugen ... he put the rear subframe from a precidia gs onto a 1991 protege GT without a problem... no modifications at all ... so seems like this shouldn't be too hard.... we'll find out i guess.. either way it won't be that hard

yah i really question that, i will believe it when i see it. he still hasent awnsered my questions from above. all the MX-3's are off of the same chassis from 92 to 98, GS and RS (other than the GS motor mounts). i bolted up a GS rear end to my MX when i did the Rear disk swap before the AWD. so i know the bolt pattern is the same.projectmx wrote:well yoda aparently bolted one rear up... maybe the earlier mx-3's had a few that were a little dif in the rear?
as i posted above the stock mx rear subfraim rails are too week to handle any torque they need to be beefed up. from compairing the rear subfraim in the awd pro and a gtx to the mx3, the sub rails are more than 3 times the thickness. if it bolts up definatly let me know, you would still have clearance issues with the spair tire area. and it would have to be seveirly dented in or cut out. thats only one of several issues with someone just bolting up a rear end with a diff. you cant without doing something to the spair tire area.
