Opinions on 3M TAPE

Post by 93-Spec-Edn »

Hi

I need some advice on putting 3m tape on the hood of a new car to prevent stone chips.
Is it a good idea? does it discolour and look gross after time and is it worth it? would u recommend it or have u had any personal experiences with it???

thanks

We use industrial strength 3M doublesided tape here where I work.. But in our applications its never visible. However.. I can say that the stuff is strong as heck and lasts forever. We use 3 different widths.. 1/2", 5/8" & 1" sizes. We get this stuff by the roll and cut to length needed for any given application. Hope this helps.

i think Honda is offering that as an option on their new cars now, seems like a pretty good idea, although its not really tape, its like a big piece that covers the front half of the hood right ? but barely noticable...... i dont have any experience with it, but i would try it for sure... my hood is all stone chipped up

What a few customers at my old job did (one guy had a 200 Nissan Maxima, the the other, she has a Mazda Rx-8) and that they did is get a strip of of clear vinyl about 5 inches high across the bottom of the hood, and and even on the fenders, it's barely noticable, and I'm actually considering that after I get my car painted in several weeks.
