the forgotten mod

Post by MarkMoore »

how come no one ever modifies their headliner??? i know i plan to modify mine in the spring when it's warmer out... i'm debating on whether to use some sort of fabric paint or to completely re-fabric it...

ever since i bought my car in june, the headliner's original grey appearance has seemed to be covered by an ugly dirty brownish color (maybe the previous owner was a smoker?).... don't think scrubbing it would help, and plus i think a black or blue headliner w/ possibly a decal painted onto it would add a lot to the interior styling

Whatever you do don't use that carpet color stuff, it looks real bad and takes tons of cans to actually make it the right color. Plus when it drys its hard like a can of spraypaint! That carbon fiber looks cool! Personally I will be recovering mine and posibly adding a raised mazda logo made of foam under the fabric. Can't wait for spring~

peace of cake.. You do have to take out all the plastic parts in the car because they are on top of each other and in order to acces the roof you have to take them all out..

Very simple to do. I just used contact glue that I spread over the fabric. I layed the new fabric on top cut the holes for the sunroof and all the other little holes..and your done

Thinking..........white suede

Post by purewhitemp5 »

Been milling this idea in my head for a week or two. I plan on painting the beige or grey looking trim pieces a satin white and doing the headliner and fabric inserts on the seats and rear trim panels in white suede to complement the black interior. Also paint some select dash pieces the same satain white.

I have recovered my headliner with black headliner material I bought at PepBoys, they also sell a strong 3m spray adhesive for it. Looks great! With some vinyl and some paint for other surfaces, my interior is now all black, and I love it!
I highly recommend it. Mine also has a moonroof, which I covered as well, and still had excess fabric.
I'll have pics up somewhere soon.
