Advantage/Disadvantage of Bore and Stroke?

Post by Sam Baker »

hey i was just wondering what kinda power gains you would get by boring/stroking a KLZE (i'm not gonna do it, but my friend is thinkin bout it).. and how would it effect responsiveness? o also, whats the highest you could bore it out to? like 2.8L or so? i know this is a noobish question, but im just curious cuz i've heard of people doing it before. :? thanks

to be a 2.8 you have to resleeve and that will cost your friend an harm and a leg...I only saw once a guy with a 2.5 that was stroked..so I don't think you'll find much info on a 2.5 stroked.

youll get more hp/tq with bigger pistons, port heads, itll spin slower though. I wonder how big you can bore k8? 2.0...2.5L???

your friend should just bore it out and up the compression to 11:1 i would think that would add about as much power as possible on a nice enough budget that you wouldnt have to sell all of your worldly possesions to attain.

yea i told him bout CZT 11:1 pistons.. but he's set on boring it to 3.0L. i duno if thats even possible! but with that CZT kit, i would think that would be enough power really.. thats what you got right steve? the only thing is that he wants NA with no sc or turbo. sounds like a lotta work :P

2.6ltr
skyline engines come with that bore i htink... so theoretically you could steal their pistons and s--- :D as they are better for more hp naturally.

yeah I got my piston/rod kit from czt. I got the 8.7 compression ratio though

Think about that..You have ovebore 0.320" to get it to 3.0L...that is major stuff here

Not gonna happen. Even with huge bore and stroke, I think the highest it's gotten was like 2.8 or 2.9 liter. However, most people who've stroked have had issues with it.

I will be looking into this later on in the year when im ready to
build my motor and will probably find its way into the FAQ's.

IE wall sizes left in blocks,

As to stroking motor's the perpose in most case's is not to
increase displacement of the engine but to change the rod
ratio which imparts different caracteistics on the motor

And of course getting bits to fit. my VW challanger motor used
chevy rod's and mitsubishi piston's more for the reliablitiy factor
than stroking...

but the three basic's of engine building remain the same.
Cam's, Carb's, Combustion.

But currently i have in the computer dyno base figures for the
KLZE and the Intake mainafold simply strangles the poor wee motor!

Hell a set of IDA carb's out the hood would bolt on 50-60HP and look
grouse doing it too.......
