I know from experience that the BPT would DESTROY the KLZE.
I've driven 3 different BPT Protege's, most of which were mostly stock boost & had nothing more than an exhaust.
I've driven two KLZE MX3's, one of which is mine. On stock boost, it'd be a close race, but with minor IC/exhaust & upping the boost to about 10psi there is no question that the BPT would destroy any KLZE powered MX3
6 out of 11 in the july drag board were k series powered mx-3's. Sure, the fastest is a 4 cylinder, but it has an incredible amount of modifications. I am on there with basically just a motor swap, intake and exhaust. Stock for stock, klze swapped mx-3 will take bp powered mx-3. Start modifying internals, playing with boost, etc, becomes a whole new ball game. I bet if someone had the financial ability to do as many modifications to a klze as some do to the four cylinders, the klze could create insane amounts of power, maybe even supra like.

mx3 with rotor engines are becoming common in australia
just recently, mazda released mx3s with factory turbos (i think for the aussie market only) which are faster then s2000's
the KLZE is nice and ANY MOTOR with the rite mods has potential. but from a stock motor the BPT has alot more potential. im running the B6 W/turbo, although it has alot of mods. iv destroyed every Mustang GT in the area. but i just blew another tranny also. all in all its just a battle no one will win, unless we get a few out to the track and see what happens.
from what i heard the DE has alot more potential than the ZE being turbocharged due to the lower compression, it can handle alot more abuse.
No matter what anyone says, the klze has more potential than the bpt. First of all, there are bpt guys that put down more hp than me but their et's aren't as quick because their off boost power is pooo. The only thing holding back klze's is aftermarket support. Think about it. We have more displacement, more cylinders, but we just have less support. If someone had the cash to install custom rods, 8.5:1 pistons, sleeves, mike seli cams, double spring valves, port and polish, possibly bore and stroker kit, I believe the klze could be built up close to some supra engines. Also, our engines would have more off boost power than a four cylinder bpt. Lastly, our trannies, in stock form, would hold up way better than the four cylinder tranny.
Conclusion: Stock gtx bpt(180 hp) vs stock klze(197 hp), klze wins. For the money, the BPT has more potential to be built up. If time and money weren't an issue, klze all the way baby.

exactly, and this post isnt about how much work, time and money is involved in modifying the engines, just which one that fits in an mx3 would be faster. klze all the way.

yah too bad the bpt is lighter than the massive 2.5 which bearly fits in the engine bay, so the bpt would still win. thats why there is less support for for the KLZE and there is support for the BPT it has more potential. less weight same power.
im just screwing with ya. im just saying for less money the BPT is well worth it if you want a 12-13 sec car. i agree the KLZE would be better if given the proper mods were done. But the supra is a straight 6 and RWD. it is difficult to contain massive amounts of HP and torque in a FWD. it would be good for only one thing a straight line.
yah the B-series is cast iron. which is heavy but still lighter then the 2.5. my 1.6 only weighs 160lbs with head manafold valve cover etc. i know cause i was going to ship an engine.
