Tokico Blues Struts

Post by Johns93GS »

I'm looking to replace my stock struts and hopefully get a lower ride, maybe with some GC Coilovers, or possibly some lowering springs.
Could anyone give me some insight about the quality or the KYB GR-2 Struts, and which lowering springs/coilovers would work best with them?
Also, does anyone know where I can get a set of the Tokico Blue Struts?
[ September 01, 2003: Message edited by: Johns93GS ]

All I have heard about GR-2`s is that they are not worth using.
Yous should go with ZX2, Koni or Mazdaspeed struts. I don`t think the GR-2`s will handle the springrate of the GC`s.
nope-mx3

he is correct.
GR2s or regular Tokico blues will NOT handle Ground Controls.
SEARCH for reasons and before you post questions that have already been asked 20 times.

So I thought maybe the Tokico Blues might work...
Which springs will work with the Blues (I have already searched this but you give no definite answer)
Where can I get Tokico Blues?
[ September 01, 2003: Message edited by: Johns93GS ]

By the way... if Tokico Blues don't work with GC's, how is Kevin Gettens using that combo with his new MX-3, Elmo?
Image
Image
He is running a Tokico Blues / GC setup so it must be able to work...
But i will go with you guys saying that it doesn't, so now im asking which springs will work with Tokico Blues??
Where can I get Tokico Blues?

Most people goto 2" or 2.25" for the B6 or K8, or like 2.5" if they swap in a KL motor.
Putting tokicos on the Ground Controls would be like using 2" piping on a KLZE. Sure it will bolt up, but its not doing the job its supposed to do. It can't handle the demands placed upon it.
also in the case of the struts, doing this will take away from their lifespan.

Why would you waste your money on tokico blues if you can get the ZX2's for about half the price?
ZX2 = $170ish + $40 for bearings
Blues = $80 each ($320 total)
WHy do we need bearings for ZX2's? Because the shaft is THICKER...which means they are going to be more heavy duty to begin with.
ZX2's = designed to be used with 1.3" drop
Blues = designed to be used as performance OEM replacements AND only warranted up to 1.5" drop
GR2's = designed to be OEM replacement, about 20% firmer than stock, and won't work for crap with lowering springs.
ZX2 is the clear winner here, cheaper than all of the other choices, and designed for lowering.

I read on all the posts about ZX2s that they require modification to work and i'm not sure I want to enter into that kind of cost right now

Thank you very much ProtegeSTS for the links... they were very helpful...
A few questions that I still have:
1.) ZX2 struts are escort struts, correct? I searched Shox.com (a link you gave in a previous post) and it referred me to the escort strut page. The Tokicos they sell are non-adjustable gas shocks. Are those the Blues or not?
I would like the Tokico blues with the Susp. Techniques springs, which I noted you said was a setup you ran with no problems.
So if those aren't the Blues on Shox.com, where can I get a set of the Blues??? I know I can get the S.T. springs from Corksport..
Anymore help to my stupid/newbie questions would be much appreciated! :)

nice attitude change...

Blues are different from the ZX2 struts. The ZX2 struts are only available through ford, and the link to the site that sells them has been posted NUMEROUS times, and I'm not going to spoon feed it to you again. SEARCH.
The "extra cost" of modifying the ZX2 pieces still puts them over a hundred dollars cheaper than the regular blues, which are inferior pieces.
