Struts: Possible to use mx-6 or others?

Post by justin h »

I know the shocks for some of the escorts, proteges, and 323s can be used on our cars. But, I was wondering if the external dimensions of the MX-6 are similar to ours. Basically, I want adjustable struts. I don't want to spend the money on the Mazdaspeeds and I'm not sure if I want GR-2s. I don't want to pay full price for Blues. Do we have any other options (other cars)?

Do not get Tokico blues if you are gonna drop your car lower than 1.5 inches. They are not designed for that much of a drop! If your gonna drop your car more than 1.5 inches, look into ZX2 struts with suspension technique springs OR some coilovers.
If you just want a mild drop (1 - 1.5"), get the tokico blues designed for the mx-3. Say away from KYB GR-2's, i havn't heard good things about em'.
P.S: I would look into the mx-6 struts too!!
[ February 03, 2003: Message edited by: zytariuk ]

i dont know about the spend the buck once on blues deal cuz my blues didnt last very long. may be just be but if i were choosing for an oem replacement id rather get zx2's, gr2's, or monroe sensatracs before i ever invest in another set of hyped out and expensive stock replacements. struts from zx2's, mx6/626/probe can be used but will need a shim on the lower mount of each strut, id only do it for adjustability reasons.

A shim.
To do what? Push it out? Or are the distance between the holes farther apart on the mx6/626?
Let me know. thanks.

you guys probably think im just blabbin but yes it can be done and has been done, its just no mx3 people are willing to shell out the cash for illuminas (lowest priced complete adjustable damping strut). the bottom strut mounts with the two bolts is a bit to wide for the mx3's so yes the distance between the two mounting holes on the bottom are greater. it would seem like all you would need is longer bolts from the probe/mx6/626 or whatever works and a chunk of metal to stick in there. if you dont believe me do a search. ive been planning on doing this but i havent had the extra cash to upgrade yet.

I wouldn't put this in the FAQ section. Why? No one has put any information about this anywhere on this forum.
[ February 05, 2003: Message edited by: zytariuk ]

On the pics the lower perch has been cut off, right?
Also, the metal on the mount bends, so it might be possible to just tighten it to where it they bend in.
If I can find some for a good price I'll try and do it.
Anyone else got any ideas post them.

pictures dont lie, so zytariuk if a picture is not good enough for you then dont bother asking for more. do u know why nobody has any info on this? the fact that almost no mx3 drivers even cared about wanting adjustable struts at the time this was done because of the costs.
i think ill take the pictures down since i dont really have permission from tekguy anyway. if someone reads this to put in the faq pm me or im me for pics
