Need suggestions on FMIC

Post by nos92mx3 »

ive been looking around for a fmic for a couple of weeks now and just wondering what a good size would be for a b6t.
Ive seen some on ebay that were 25x5x3 and was told that it was to big for my b6t.
What i pretty much want to do is buy an intercooler that will be effective on the b6t in pretty much stock trim and be effective when i up the boost, but also fill up the front pretty well.
Sugestions plz!

If I was you I'd just get the ebay one. They are pretty cheap and seem to be about the right size to perfectly fill the stock opening in the front bumper.

Getting "too big" of an intercooler is a pretty hard thing to do. usually the bigger the better, as long as it is efficient. there may be a slightly bigger pressure drop but worth the sacrifice.

filling in the bumper is good but id rather it be really effective stock and when i up the boost then look good. has anyone had any experiences with a ebay front mount?

Theres a few people on the mx6 message forum with them. They are much better than a stock intercooler on our cars. One guy is running 14 psi on a hybrid turbo and has no complaints.

It is far better than a crappy starion. Just about the only factory intercooler worth your time is a supra MK4, which in no way will fit, or a Porsche 944.

Your best bet if you want the most efficiency is a bar & plate style. They are usually 3" thick though and I think that would be a little tough to fit.

to be honest i would say get the starion fmic. thats the one i have and i must say does a fine job. the hardest thing is running the pipes. i would suggest leaving your car with a shop for a day or two so they can get the piping measured and hung then they can go back and weld the pipes together. try to make it all one pipe. trust me the i/c is big but not to big and can be had on ebay for like 125-150. very worth it to me at least. thats what i did and have had no probs what so ever. i got maybe a 1psi drop. i then just turned the boost up just a tad and bam i was back to normal boost and a nice intake charge.

ok starion sounds decent but eventually im going to tear down the motor (again) and rebuild it all with hi performance equipment, so i want to be able to find na intercooler that will work well with what i have going on now and then work well withj all the upgraded epuipment.
Does anyone know how much the vj-14 turbo flows at say 14 psi?

here's what i'm working on right now...the intercooler is off ebay from a seller called assini or something like that...the intercooler is huge, the endtanks are almost to the end of the big opening in my MS front. havn't gotten it up and running yet though so i can't tell you how well it works.
