Superchargers

Post by Famine »

Hola!

Just looking for a little advice, for the non-technically gifted.

I run a 1998 Mazda MX-3 1.8i V6 - it's a very, very nice car (and I've recently discovered the joys of not roasting idiots who think I'm in a Tigra, and instead slotting it into 5th gear and leaving it there). BUT...

It's a little... acceleration free lower down the range, and overall it's not really the quickest car on Earth - although it IS good.

I was thinking of perhaps having a supercharger fitted, and was wondering if you could impart some advice/words of wisdom/possible costings to an automotive engineering dunce like myself. Most of the bits I've seen around here are abbreviated to hell and back (I don't DO engine codes :D ) and it's pretty heavy going.

A 2.5 V6 engine transplant is NOT going to happen, before anyone suggests that :D

Cheers!

Edit: Curses! No [color] tags in this forum... :crying:

www.boosthead.com

Select the dropdown for Mazda, MX3 1.8L K8 V6, and Eaton Supercharger Kit (not the electric supercharger).

It's $3500 U.S. for the whole kit.

Nice - almost exactly what I was looking for, although a little pricier than I'd thought.

How about in the UK though (for that is where I am)?

Cheers again!

best thing to do is grab a cheap supercharger of ebay and do a custom install job will be way less than a kit. You could do it as litte as 500 with ebay and own work. Youd want to get an air/fuel gauge and book some dyno time. Then just tweak the supercharger to push the appropriate psi without going into a lean condition.

true,in the retail world you would never get aa sc cheap .. but on ebay you can get alot for less
check out these ones.. *Another thing to note, is if shopping on ebay look out for people asking for core deposits or selling the electic kind..

note that some serious custom work would have to be done but it beats paying something like 3500$ for thomas knight kit...
