I'm glad to see an active topic on rods and pistons.
Question is.. Am I asking too much for low compression piston? 200$US, 300$CAN..
Well, I got a set, look into the buying zone..

ok, well chris has talked me into doing a bp swap, then saving to turboing it. but im gonna let it sit and rebuild.
so while its out i was debating swapping to the 1.8 sohc piston(92-94)protege to lower the comp ratio to a 8.2:1 it sounds good but is it? just looking for a little more feed back from what ive read.
i got a 90 pgt...but wish it was a mx-3 bp-t!

Why do you want to lower the compression further?
If you are building it, depending on your goals you might want to get a set of forged pistons, maybe rods. Remember, the higher the compression ratio, the quicker the spool-up, and the better the tuning must be.

lower compression = more boost :)
look @ the 4g63T engine in the eclipse, its really low compression.

well,id like to lower it to a 8.5:1 the 9.0:1 has me a little sceptical because i know i will be more septible to detonation but at the 8.2:1 itll be more difficult to reach the 375-425 hp goal i have. im still searching for a way to just lower it to the 8.5.
yes i will be gettin forged piston/rods.

lower boost = poor spool up and and excuse for poor tuning

the suspension will be eibach or h&r springs with tokico sturts. the drivtrain will be beefed up but to what im not yet sure because i havent done my research yet on that part. i know they need to be beefed up, im thinking about the pro lx axle, cv joints, etc etc...any suggestions would be appreciated or more apprecicated would be a point in the right direction so i can view it for myself. and yes i knew about the drivetrain/suspension from previous post and talking to other people.

The transmission cases are known to be weak points. Running the power you are planning it might be wise to have the case cryo treated. I have thought about welding additional "ribs" to the case but fear of distorting the case from the heat is keeping me and others from doing so. An LSD will be needed. Brakes? Going to need to stop eventually. :D Make sure you replace all of your bushings with units from SRD to limit wheel hop.

brakes-disc all around kvr cross drilled with kvr cf pads.
the casing, where would i go to get it cryo treated? not gonna act like i know what it is cuz i dont! and how much would that improve the case.
bushings-all of the ones from srd will be put in.
also a rear lower tie bar will be added. and ofcourse the sturt tower bar front and rear but will the front still fit fine with the bp engine?
oh and ill be goin with mazdaspeed engine mount kit.
and about the lsd ill be gettin the quaife atb.(yes it is all for the protoge)
also, im gonna go with the act clutch kit for the mx-6-93+ or is it the one for the 92 and below? flywheel id like the u.o. but is the one for the mx-6 gonna work or no?
[ August 15, 2003: Message edited by: ltjrunner ]

Your will need to find a race shop that can do cryo treating. Call around, some one probably does it.
Strut tower bar will fit as long as there are no other mods that get in the way.
What flywheel are you using? The stock MX-6 flywheel is quite a bit heavier than the MX-3 version.
