Tire sizes?

Post by G-C »

hi everyone,
ok im pretty new with this, so please bear with me. i was wondering what the maximum tire width i can put on my mx-3? currently i have the stock 1994 RS rim + wheel cover. my current tires are 175/75/14. i was told be a friend that also has an mx-3 was that 175 was the widest they could fit on my car without rubbing up against my wheel well during turns.

what is the widest tires youve had on your mx-3 without any rubbing while turning? also, what would be the widest tires i could get onto a stock 1994-1996 GS 15" alloy rim? thanks!

yes you can fit a wider tire on a mx-3, im not sure on the maximum size, but then again you wouldnt want to break anything. i'd say a 180 or a 185 would be a fine size that won't cause trouble.

i have 215/35/18, and they give me no trouble unless i am cornering hard with wheel cranked all they way... i think a couple guys have fit 225s even. my 215s don't give me any rubbing in normal driving under any circumstance

what exactly are you asking? do you mean how wide of a tire can fit on that rim? or do you mean how wide of tire can fit on the mx-3 that comes with that rim size? but if you mean the width of the tire of the rim, i wouldnt suggest putting a wider tire on that rim, it was built for 1 size and 1 size only. your going to have to get some wider rims for some wider tires im afraid.

well i have two different sizes. 225 50 15 up front and 205 60 15 in the rear
running what is supposed to be a 1998 miata wheels. i got the wheels from my buddy at the local junk yard. traded for the ones that came with my car. also got the car from him, ya a junk yard.
i got a set of ADR 18s wheels on ebay and am thinking of either 235 40 18 or 245 40 18
not too sure which way i will go on this.
oh mine is a 1995 RS mx-3 with a few parts off different GSs. Since my friend runs the junk yard, i can usually go and get parts off the cars in his junk yard.
i have bought 3 cars from him.
u can see a pic of my cars and the wheels here:

u have to cut and paste. sori

Fry, i think u r wrong. yes only one size but that is in 14, 15, 16, etc
but the width is a different story. u can mount more than one size, ie width on a given wheel.
Think about it, how do different ppl have different width tires on the same 15 in wheels? just go ask ur friendly discount tire dude
