help! wheel bearing

Post by chris83 »

okay.. my back wheel bearing(s) are shot..
its the back right one im pretty sure

question is, how do you figure out which bearing it is? inner or outter.. or do you just buy a whole new assembly?.

Second question, I have ABS.. but the damn wheel bearing is apparently twice as much, I dont use abs.. can I get a standard wheel bearing? or should it be like putting a square peg in a round hole.

Third...wheres the cheapest place in canada to order these from? whats the mazda dealer charge? :crying:

You should have just one in the spindle.
Id suggest going and buying a spindle from the Junk yard that has a good bearing. I paid 25 for mine. A new bearing is ~ 30-40 bucks I think and you still have to have it pressed in.

what about the ABS issue?
does it need to be a ABS wheel bearing or will a standard one fit?

To be honest I ve never seen ABS on an MX-3. I know its an option, but noone locally has it. Where is the sensor located for it? I know its near the axle because the Axle has the extra gear for the ABS on it. Got a camera so u can take a pic of the spindle/ABS setup?

dont have a digital camera unfortunatly, yeah ABS is a pain in the rear.. its more harmful then good :( I'll call a junkyard and see if they have any, but if I need ABS wheel bearings chances are they will have to be ordered. One store wants 140$ for one :( . But you said there is only one right? I thought there was two.

i just had to replace the wheel bearing on the front passenger side of my 92 GS. Theres only one bearing, i managed to get it for 40 something from lordco parts, and i had to get it pressed in at the dealer which cost me about $30 with taxes. so if priced are comparable there to they are here itll run you about $70-80 canadian if u pull it all apart yourself. plus around $7-10 more for the dust seal
