Hey I once had a prob kinda like that. wasn't really "wheel hopping" but the engine would seriously surge back and forth. Mine, too, was fine in every gear but first. I finally saw that the intake accordion-looking thingy was really worn out and cracked underneath. It was sucking air when the engine would surge. I replaced it and all's well now. Don't know if that helps at all, but you might want to check it cause if that's it, it's a simple $80 plug and play fix. ![Shrug :shrug:](./images/smilies/shrug.gif)

my 92 K8 is doing it too, but in any gear, up to like 25 miles an hour. I do have a bad CV on the pass. side, gonna replace it and see if that cures the problem, if not, then on to other issues.
