what should the compression be on a 1.8????

160 - 200 but more importantly all 6 cylinders should be very close to each other. If the method your using puts one cylinder at 180 then the other five cylinders should be within 5-10 psi.
There are a couple of different methods for checking compression, which one are you using?

take 1 spark plug out and put some thing in there and turn the key for a few seconds then look at the guage. do it with the coil wire undone. i think thats it my dad is gonna do it.
