ERAM electric supercharger?
I looked this up and it's no joke. Has anyone out there seen this in action?<BR>Is it worth $299.99?

Anyone considering electric supercharges, should first read this : <A HREF="http://www.autospeed.com.au/A_0237/P_2/article.html" TARGET=_blank>http://www.autospeed.com.au/A_0237/P_2/article.html</A> <P>......................<P>So the best blower design (the same type that's used on the Mazda 800) takes about 14,500 watts to drive it on a modest-sized engine. This power is derived from the engine via a belt connecting the blower to the engine's crankshaft.<P>But let's say that instead of using a belt-drive from the engine, we power the supercharger by using a 12 volt electric motor powered from the car battery. For an electric motor power of 14,500 watts, we'd need a current flow of about 1000 amps (14,500 watts divided by 13.8 volts = 1050 amps). So, to supply the current to drive an electric supercharger having the same airflow output as the most energy-efficient type currently available, it would take 1000 amps. To generate this much electrical power would require at least 8 heavy-duty alternators bolted to the engine. Furthermore, to handle this current, the wires connecting the battery to the supercharger would have to be enormously thick - perhaps brass or copper bars 10mm square would be needed. <P><BR>.....................

Slo,<P>What you wrote is true IF the electric supercharger were required to generate 11.5 psi boost. The ERAM only develops 1 psi boost. Additionally the values you are using are for a screw type supercharger which the ERAM is not. I looked at the linked page and I don't think it's fair to compare the ERAM to the Twin Turbo Zet, the latter being an obvious ripoff. The photos of the ERAM show a device that does indeed look like the compressor end of a turbo.<P>I'm not saying the ERAM is the greatest invention since the napkin but they do have dyno runs on their website and they do offer a performance guarantee. Just realize what they offer, what the performance guarantee specifies, and be realistic about the outcome. They only guarantee a 4% increase, that's a 5.2 HP increase on a 130 HP engine. This obviously will not transform a 1.8L V-6 into a rip snortin', VTEC a-- kickin' machine!

Have u guys seen the video of eram in action? I looks like it would produce more power then just a cold air intake. Cant it be used with a cold air intake anywayz? but i do believe that you should beef up your Ignition system before applying. <P>I think it would attain more hp for high rev engines and more reliable than a turbo for high compression engines.
