Crank the engine by hand.. as soon as the compression starts to go up in #1 cylinder.. Take off the compression gauge. Put a long screwdriver down into the cy...

Autozone sorta sucks I have discovered.. at least in my area.. I checked Napaonline.com for your 92 GS and found a knock sensor listed for $114. You could also try http://www.partsamerica.com (home to shucks and checkers auto supply stores) The autozone in my area has failed 3 times to have parts av...

Oil pressure and then volt.
I agree.. beyond this I think I will eventually add a fuel/air mixture gauge as well since the B6 engines seem susceptible to lean mixture conditions. Might not be a bad idea to be able to keep an eye on this even with a stock engine.

Having a repair manual for your engine is ALWAYS a good idea.. And having a set of procedures for changing the timing belt for your specific engine would be excellent to have.. would help eliminate any missed steps.

I personally havent dont the timing belt on a BP engine.. but I have on many other engines. Only thing that might be tricky is the tensioner position. Assuming the BP ha...

5w-20w would be a thinner oil.. the lower the weight the thinner the oil. Also.. straight weight oils have a more consistant viscosity, meaning that a straight 30w oil will remain thicker longer than a 10w-30w oil.. even though both will have the same viscosity at specified temperatures. This is wha...

For a new engine.. I would start off immediately with a good Synthetic. Royal Purple.. Castrol.. Valvoline.. and Mobil all make excellent Synthetic oils. For a engine in used or unknown history type condition.. Kendall 10w-30w (which is what I am running in my car now.) The shop manual suggests 10w-...
