You'll have to take a hair dryer to it to heat the seals just as you would the front headlights. Then when you put it back together, reheat it with the hair dryer and push it back together. All the lights (headlights, tailights, turnsignals, ect.) have to be done this way if you want to open them up...

I've had mine on for about 4 months and they leak too. I will have to heat them apart to clean out the water and later seal them up. No need to buy new ones just for that.

Sounds like you have a bad guage from the manufacturer. I'd take it back and get it replaced if you can or buy another one to test it.
