Re: Cranks, puts a bit - but will not start.

This is partly to organize my thoughts. Well the car started today. It has a number of problems. No CEL - I will check again. I cut out the wires that connected to the stock ignition coil on the distributor - the three pronged plug - they were brittle and had cracks all through the insulation in thr...

Re: Cranks, puts a bit - but will not start.

I can hear the fuel pump. I can hear it "fuel related stuff" sound like it's building pressure when my room mate cranks the engine.

Lets go outside and get my hands dirty, if only to look manly.

Oh, and HELP! I have no freaking clue about what I'm doing.

Thank you kindly.

Re: Cranks, puts a bit - but will not start.

No CEL already checked. Changed the fuel filter - a few days ago. New Rotor - new Cap - checked again. No spark - I don't have an extra spark plug wire that's kicking around to test from the distributor contacts to a grounded part of the car. Checked resistance on my spark plug cables - give or take...

Re: Tips and tricks on fuel filter replacement.

Follow up - Wow that's a tight space. Take the rear seat out. Unclip the connector to the fuel pump. Start the engine, run it, and it will stall. take the battery out, remove the shelf that holds the battery (4x10 MM bolts) This is where things get tight. The fuel filter has mushroomed fitting to pr...

[fail] Half a can of propane checking for vacuum issues.

So I'm looking for vacuum issues, using a propane torch fitted (duct taped) to some vacuum tube, and I move my tube around the engine where I want to check for a leak. Problem is, that the idle is so freaking random I simply can't tell if I've found a leak. I've used throttle body cleaner. - This is...

Re: Cranks, puts a bit - but will not start.

Do you think this is a problem with the distributor? How could I tell?

Cranks, puts a bit - but will not start.

So a few times in the past - my car was difficult to start. The day I picked it up. Cranked it for a about 10 seconds, and no start. Put the "gas" to the floor and cranked a while longer - and eventually it started. It did this again - replace spark plugs. A mechanic did this for me, for t...

Tips and tricks on fuel filter replacement.

When I bought my car, the fuel cap was missing. I'm not sure when the last time the fuel filter was replaced. So maybe change the filter... I purchased a new one. Changing it Sounds simple, Relieve the fuel system pressure, remove the old filter put in the new one. But now I'm looking at it. How the...

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TPS AND THERMOSTAT?

My car idles at strange speeds now. I can ground pin 10 of the diag. Panel, and adjust the screw for the throttle plate all I want. At the moment a have it one full revolution from closed. I spent a while playing with it. TPS is out to lunch, do you really need the feeler gauge and voltometer to pos...

Re: idle is really high after going to a lube shop.

Grrr. Problem persists. Hew I smell coolant when I run the heater. Talking with a "car guy" who says swap the tps. Just 2 Boltzmann, easy! I go to picknpull, and I buy two of the blasted things. He does not mention I need a good volt meter and feeler gauges to get it back on, aligned the w...

Re: idle is really high after going to a lube shop.

Yes I think the problem has been solved. - Sort of hacked through it. I replaced some of the vacuum lines. One going to a from a sensor to what I think is a charcoal filter. No more hiss from that part of the engine bay. Charcoal to the purge solenoid valve. VRIS Shutter valve actuators, one of the ...

Re: idle is really high after going to a lube shop.

I've used propane, and I've used a flammable throttle body cleaner.

So far I've found about 5 things.
Yesterday I had this thing working awesome! Just roasting that old K8 reving to 4500/5000 with a consistent power.
