Re: Electric MX3 Conversion
Trying to keep the weight distribution around 60/40, F/R, Also it gives me more space in the back, not that i need anmore space anyway now that its a 2 seater. Also the nice thing about the 6 batteries (150kg) in the back is that since the pack is so low the the ground, the handling should be somewh...

Re: Electric MX3 Conversion
Progress update: 2/6/10 I have 12 75Ah AGM batteries. 6 will go in the front and 6 in the back. 300kg all up unfortunately. These batteries can discharge 1000amps + although the controller can only handle up to 400max. I purchased these second hand from a UPS system for $30 each, they are in relativ...

Re: Electric MX3 Conversion
Progress update: Lithium batteries are just outside my budget so i will be going lead acid, either AGM(preferred) or wet cell. Lithium cells need alot of associated hardware including cell balances and specials chargers that are expensive. So i have had to make a new battery box to accommodate the m...

Re: Electric MX3 Conversion
Today i fabricated up a battery cage for the lithium cells. I plan to have 45, 3.2v, 100ah lithium cells in the cage. This is equivalent to 14.4 kWh or hopefully at least 60km travel. The cells weigh 144kg all up. The cage needs to withstand 20g's front impact and 10g side impact. I currently doubt ...

Re: Electric MX3 Conversion
Id like to do an AC conversion but the price is a little out of my range. At the minute im considering a DC system which uses a chinese motor and controller. The bus voltage would be 144V and the controller can deliver up to 400 amps max. (thats ~ 50kW) The motor is rated at 11kW continuous. The mot...

Electric MX3 Conversion
Hi all I just bought a 1993 mx3 ("eunos 30x" in australia) 1.8 V6 with 180,000km for 850$. The car does drive but clutch is bad, possibly valve seats worn (smokey exhaust) , and is running poorly. interior is slightly water damaged, but exterior relatively clean for age. This will be the d...

Re: Fuel economy/Heat recovery

Re: Fuel economy/Heat recovery
Since my mx3 is converted to lpg theres no point making it electric now. (ultimately my dream in the future would be a electric mx3) Im looking around for a small donor car for like 200$ that i can convert. it'll probably be a budget job. Ill do some more research but the most i complicated part wou...

Re: Fuel economy/Heat recovery
http://forkenswift.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Thanks Newfie_dan. That renewed my interest in electric cars. Why was the clutch not needed? Was the motor shaft connected directly to the trans? Only downside is max range on 2nd hand lead acid batts is like 60km. New ...

Re: Fuel economy/Heat recovery
Can you explain to me where you got the 15.8:1 stoich instead of 14.8:1? 15.8:1 can be derived from the chemical combustion equation of Methane and propane in air LPG combusts with air at a slightly different AF ration than petrol. LPG has a high octane rating of between 100 and 106 depending on me...

Re: Fuel economy/Heat recovery
getting a wide band O2 ASAP. Ultimately i want to find a balance with (power and FE) with regards to tuning. I know my electronics are "inferior" to a FMU, but spending a grand on a FMU may take a while to recoup costs. I dont see why there would be any problems using this as 1- i can moni...
