Re: Just Bought My 1st MX-3
If the car is moving a bit, but you are hearing the slipping sounds from the clutch, it should be just the clutch is way gone. Dont forget to scuff the surface of the flywheel with some sand paper to get any marks off of it, but dont make it too smooth, the clutch still needs to be able to grab it. ...

Re: Just Bought My 1st MX-3
It's really not as bad as it seems, first, remove your battery and battery tray. You can either turn the wheels to extreme lock or unbolt the ball joints and pull the axles. Disconnect your shifter linkage and slave cylinder(sits on the front of the trans). Support your engine with a jack and a bloc...

Re: Will the OBX cams for Miata MX5 1.6L B6ZE fit my MX3?
With higher compression pistons, better cams, port and polish, possibly bore and stroke, you might get that at the flywheel, but that would only translate to about 130 at the wheels. I'm pretty sure most hp numbers that came from mazda in the 90's were based at the flywheel and didnt take into accou...

Re: Just Bought My 1st MX-3
Starting from the top, firing order should be 1342, I think no.1 is marked on the distributor. If you look at your distributor, there is 2 mounting bolts on adjustable brackets, it should be sitting roughly midway in the brackets. Back off the bolts slightly and turn the distributor a bit and see if...

Re: Just Bought My 1st MX-3
There must be a junkyard nearby where you live, any intake tube off of a 90-94 protege or 323 will work and they'll usually only cost like $5-10. Just run some fuel injection cleaner through and see if it gets any better, chances are if it was sitting for very long, the injectors are gummed up and g...

Re: Just Bought My 1st MX-3
The extra opening in the intake piping could very well be causing the problem. There is supposed to be 2 hoses coming from off the intake, one for the valve cover and one to the idle air control (iac). The iac is just under the throttlebody and uses something like 3/8" hose I believe. The maf i...

Re: Just Bought My 1st MX-3
If you look under the hood, there's a diagnostic port, grab a small piece of wire and jump it to where it says ten and ground. Turn the ignition to on and the CEL light will start to flash your codes and just count the flashes, long flash is first digit, short is 2nd. Here's the codes: 02 Distributo...

Re: B6 ecu & harness to work with BP?
It'll run like crap if you dont use the right vaf and ecu. If the ecus and vafs were designed to run on different engines, they would have instead of paying engineers to come up with new parts. Shortcuts and making things cheaper is always better in their mind, not the best choice when doing a motor...

Re: Just Bought My 1st MX-3
A replacement trans you can pick up at a junk yard for under $300 pretty easilya u pull. The hardest thing will be pulling the old axles from it, sometimes they stick. The trans itself only weighs about 60-70lbs so it's not hard to move around on your own. A BP motor is a 1.8 dohc engine making appr...

Re: Just Bought My 1st MX-3
First off, congrats and welcome to the club. You were right about the valve cover gasket, they get bad with age. When you say the car wont move in a forward motion, will it move in reverse or not under it's power at all? I'm assuming it's a 5 speed and you've tried other gears than first as well? ei...

Re: Hesitation when giving it too much gas.
It sounds like it could be either a timing issue or it's possible there could be a crack in your intake tube and when you give it too much gas, the engine moves, expanding the crack.

Re: i need help
The thing that is kind of round? Distributor? Coil? Alternator? It sounds like you are just throwing money at it without trying to figure out the symptoms. Just because you have a new fuel pump doesnt mean you are getting fuel. Have you actually taken off a fuel line and seen fuel coming out? How ar...

Re: Proper ECU/MAF Combo For BP Swapped Mx-3
The problem is you swapped from a b6de to a BP, if you had the B6 sohc, it would be just a straight shot, run 2 wires for vics and your 4th wire for the disty and be done. Since you have the B6de harness though, it'll look more like the 2nd gen BP connectors I believe. I'm not sure if the actual maf...

Re: Rad fan won't turn on
Luckily the rad and a decent thermostat are good enough to stop overheating most times. All the thermostat does is control when coolant circulates through your motor once it reaches a certain temp, if it didnt work, you'd be topping out your temp gauge in about 10 mins or so. It sounds like your the...
