Re: need help
It could be that the idle screw is set too low or you might have a slight vacuum leak in your intake. The idle screw is near the top of your throttlebody, just give it a turn and you can raise your idle.

Re: 4 speed engine into a 5 speed transmission
As far as bolting up any b series motor to a stock trans, just use the flywheel and clutch designed for the trans and you are set, even the exhaust will bolt up. What you do need is the BP ecu, disty, vaf and passenger motor mount bracket and possibly the wiring harness. If you use the BP wiring har...

Re: Second Opinion
Sounds like the lifters picked up a piece of dirt, get some seafoam or other sort of engine detergent to clean it out. GM dealers sell some called EOS I believe and it works really well too. If you are running thick oil like 10W30 or thicker, try switching to 5W30 too.

Re: BP?
There is a stamping on the head near the disty on the BP, pretty easy to see. I think there was only 2 style valve covers made for them, the 1st gen ribbed style and the 2nd gen smooth style. It's possible someone could have made a custom one, but unlikely with hot metal turning so fast below it, I ...

Re: Engine Upgrade...suggestions
91-96 escort gt, ideally not 91 since they had the small nose crank. Some protege lx's in the U.S. and protege gt's in Canada from 91-98 came with them too but you'd be better off going for an escort gt and finding a mazda valve cover because you are guaranteed to be getting a fwd g-series trans ins...

Re: Engine Upgrade...suggestions
You could keep your stock trans for now if you just get a regular BP, but to boost it, you'll need to look for a g-series trans out of an escort gt to handle the extra power. Most transmissions for the b series mazda motors are interchangeable, just use the flywheel that matches that transmission an...

Re: Just Bought My 1st MX-3
It probably came out of a 1.8 sohc protege, look for a stamping, if it starts with f, you are good to go, if it starts with g, you might need to swap axles too because then it would have came from a 1.8 dohc. You should just have to swap on your speedo cable and wire up your neutral switch and rever...

Re: wow!! eveything fell in my lap.
If you use 440cc injectors from an rx7, it will be alot easier to tune your idle and better on gas and should be plug and play, 550 are kind of overkill unless going for VJ23 or a T3 setup with lots of boost. As far as the fuel pump, most people go for 255 since it is easier to find and it wont make...

Re: 3" round tailpipe on 1,6 sohc base.Is it good?
I believe that the exhaust is 2" or 2 1/4" from the motor to the cat, then it gets bumped down a size or 2 from there. You'd probably have to replace your cat and from there back plus get it bumped up alot to fit. In my opinion, it's not worth it unless you have some serious turbo plans in...

Re: b6t whered they go
You could probably find a used 323 gtx mani for under 200 and with only minor mods, the mx6 turbo will fit fine on it. If you are using small amounts of boost, you could get away with your stock engine, but beware boost creep and tune in a bit of safety just in case it does. There are still some sup...

Re: 1996 mx3 rs 4cyl upgrade
He'd be better off with a 2nd gen BP from a 95-98 protege since his car is probably obd2 since it is a 96. As far as the transmission goes, it will bolt up as long as you use the stock flywheel from the B6DE, but the computer controls for it probably wouldnt work unless someone has access to part nu...

Re: b6t whered they go
If you can find a cheap escort gt around with a decent motor and trans, buy it, and start picking away at turbo parts on the forums. I did that and had a full setup including standalone for about $1000 for my old 323. The stock BP will handle close to 300HP with the block, the weak link is the trans...

Either an mx3 or 323 tranny will work, just use the axles you have now.

Re: Just Bought My 1st MX-3
He has a sohc B6, and he said he just wants it as an economy car. Either way, unless he decides to go turbo, he doesnt need a jdm trans, just a normal one will be fine if it ends up being a problem too.

Re: Just Bought My 1st MX-3
I'd go with something around 100-120 and then maybe finish with around 200-250. You can use some brake cleaner on any scorch marks but make sure it is clean and dry before putting it back on.
