Re: Sluggish response on windows and Sun roof

You can buy silicone spray to lube the rubber window tracks. Lithium grease will work on the cable that drives the sunroof. There is some truth that the window switches can get dirty and will not carry enough current to drive the window motor. However, I had no luck just spraying contact cleaner at ...

Re: Distributor Wiring 3 Pin plug - 4th Wire ?

Only a guess, but the green / black wire is a ground wire and the previous owner decided to use it to ground the shield wire. Or is the shield wire being used by the green / black wire to get to ground? That's normally what you do with a shield wire is ground it so any electromagnetic interference (...

Re: Distributor Wiring 3 Pin plug

I'll probably say some stupid things, but maybe then the question will become clear so someone can help. Obviously stock is those wires connected to the 3 pin distributor plug. Was the plug cut off for a GM ignition module and external coil? Is this off a running car? Do you have some other ignition...

Re: Idle Problem

Follow this order: 1. Set TPS 2. Set idle speed 3. Set timing You cannot set timing until the idle speed is set at 650 - 700. This is what it means to set base timing = timing when engine is warm and at idle speed Both idle speed and timing is set in diagnostic mode (jumper TEN and GND terminal in d...

Re: Idle Problem

The catalytic converter is not a problem. The TPS is not ok. You proved the TPS is not set by telling us the fans turned on. You can get a rough setting of the TPS by using the fans. I recommend you follow the service manual procedure and use a multimeter and feeler gauge to set the position of the ...

Re: Front ?bearing? grind

If your last comment means the car can't be unavailable for a day while you wait for a shop to press a new wheel bearing then you might consider buying a used steering knuckle (spindle). If you need a shop to press the bearing you'll be removing the whole spindle anyway. Your choice to have the new ...

Re: My project, all help welcome.

You'll have to check the online manuals for testing the coil. I understand that coils sometimes act up when hot - but usually the engine stops or will not start. Since ignitor and coil problems usually mean the car will not start I think your problem is more basic. First check and clean ground conne...

Re: Idle Problem

Fuel consumption and responsiveness are all related to idle adjustment. You have the air filter cone jammed on to the airflow sensor (VAF - the black thing just behind the air filter cone). The air filter cone might be holding the VAF open. This would explain all the problems you are having. First p...

Re: Idle Problem

Either the engine thinks it needs to fast idle (like when the engine is cold) or you need to take care of some tune up setting. You might start by confirming some settings: - set throttle position sensor TPS see manuals F2-152 and a few pages - set timing and idle see manuals F2-73 and a few pages a...

Re: Air intake question

Post in the "want to buy" section - someone may have these parts laying around.

You could also probably modify stock intake parts from a Mazda MX6, Ford Probe or Mazda 626 with a V6 engine. Any of those would be setup to use a similar VAF (air meter that is in the intake tube).

Re: Burning Rubber Smell?!

The burning smell might be related to the oil leak. Here I am assuming oil is leaking onto the exhaust manifold near the firewall and burning off. Since this is near where the blower gets fresh air (at the bottom of the front windshield on right side) maybe it is pumping the burned oil vapors into t...

Re: Idle Problem

I assume your idle is steady (not surging) but just too high. If true then: 1. Check the cable connected to your throttle. Make sure there is a little slack in the cable when your foot is off the gas (at idle). If it is too tight it will hold the throttle open and cause the idle to be high. 2. Pull ...

Re: Hla noise

The first number for oil "weight" is viscosity at 0C the second number viscosity at 100C. I believe the manual specifies 10W30. If the oil you're using has 30 at the end it is Ok.

Re: '95 MX3 GS Radiator Fluid Leak

In my experience the plastic radiator tank repair kits are a temporary solution. They may work for a short time and will definitely slow a leak down if it is a simple crack in one of the plastic tanks. VersaChem, Loctite, JB weld all offer a version of their epoxy that is supposed to seal the plasti...

Re: Code 41....

The codes are related to the operation of the solenoid (not the actual vacuum actuated valve). At the top of the solenoid are 2 vacuum line connectors. Vacuum enters the top connector and when the solenoid is energized the vacuum is open to the side connector where it will then be used to pull the V...
