Re: Failed Emissions Twice w/ DE swap; no CEL or any issues
FPR failure is usually ruptured diaphragm. If it was ruptured the vacuum hose would pull fuel into the intake and again your car would run rich. Any fuel in the vacuum hose when you remove it? The fact that it immediately stalls makes me think something else is wrong. I'm just thinking during your t...

Re: Failed Emissions Twice w/ DE swap; no CEL or any issues
Sorry if I'm confusing things. Left side of engine is closest to the bumper. Front of engine is timing belt and accessory belts. The FPR needs vacuum to regulate appropriate fuel pressure. The prc valve sits between the vacuum source and the fpr. Usually the prc valve is doing nothing. Vacuum is flo...

Re: Failed Emissions Twice w/ DE swap; no CEL or any issues
Are you running the engine with no vacuum applied to the fuel pressure regulator (fpr)? The PRC valve only interrupts vacuum for hot restarts. But if no vacuum is applied to the fpr then you'll have higher fuel pressure at the fuel rail during idle and probably running rich at idle when emissions ar...

Re: Air/Fuel ratio problems
You've done all the hard work. You're just missing something simple. Look for an air intake leak. You likely are getting air into the engine that is not being measured by the VAF. That will cause high idle, lean condition, hesitation, etc. So somewhere between the VAF and the intake manifold air is ...

Re: knock sensor bypass
Knock sensor is a microphone and output is oscillating dc voltage. I've heard of people connecting a 500K to 1M ohm resistor in place of the knock sensor. The resistor fools the ECM to thinking that a knock sensor is there even if it is not. That avoids having the ECM retard timing thinking the circ...

Re: Another wont start thread
Hate to think distributor with the recent work so hopefully you'll find a ground wire loose. After you're convinced all ground connections are good then you might pull a few bolts off the timing cover and pry it back to check the belt. That could cause the engine to stop suddenly. But it is not cons...

Re: 93 MX-3 V6 hesitation issue(edited4/25/12)
Hesitation is most likely ignition related, but if the car idles poorly it could also be related to air (intake or vacuum leak). Back to basics: Check intake connections and vacuum hoses for leaks and make sure properly connected. How old are your plug wires, plugs, distributor cap and rotor? Igniti...

Re: De swap- No power
I believe you got the battery right. Does the positive cable connect to the correct terminal on the starter solenoid? Any breaks in the insulation? Look at the thicker wire on the alternator too. Any chance either of these connections is touching another wire or part of the engine (or the starter or...

Re: Need Diagnostic Help w/1999 Millenia 2.5L; 2 cylinders '
Good catch. Gotta pay attention to the numbers on the cap. The firing order is 123456 but the cap is built for ignition cables to be connected differently. See this link for a picture of the ZE versus DE cap and the DE cap has a wire built into the cap to route the spark to the correct cable. Tickin...

Re: De swap- No power
This is a major short circuit. You have either connected the battery backwards or the positive cable from the battery is being grounded. Given that you've blown the main fuse there may be other damage to electronic components. You must find and fix the short first. Trace the positive battery cable. ...

Re: Have any of you remove the steering rack with the engine
Haven't done this with the MX3 but have some experience with other cars. You can often sneak the rack out the side of the car without dropping exhaust or subframe. If needed you might completely remove the outer tie rods from the rack. Doubt it is necessary, but you can also completely remove the in...

Re: V6 aluminum Radiator
Rockauto and autopartswarehouse have OEM replacements - some are all metal. These things are getting rare. I know that Probe and MX6 radiators can be made to work. You'll have to adapt an all aluminum "racing" radiator to fit. Take dimensions off OEM, orientation of inlet and outlet. Searc...

Re: Throwing out coolant
Exactly. The tube dripping coolant is just a vent to air and of course will drain coolant if the tank overflows. Is the car over heating? Is it possible the radiator overflow is hooked up backwards? The tube from the radiator neck should connect to the overflow tank cap where there is a small tube t...

Re: Throwing out coolant
Exhaust gas flowing into the cooling system through bad head gasket or worse would explain everything. You would also be running hot or overheating. But presence of exhaust gas in the coolant system is easy to test for with a combustion gas tester like the ones sold at NAPA part 700-1006. Coolant wo...

Re: Wheel spacers/extended studs
7" wheel with +45 offset will stick only 12 or so mm further inside and outside compared to the stock 6" +45mm offset. At the very most a 10mm spacer, but sounds like our cars have approx 1/2" clearance toward the inside of the hub. Sounds like you got a good deal.
