Re: Overheated and did something stupid
Fitted new radiator and have been driving it for around a week with zero issues. Still going fine in 40 degree Celsius heat! Water pump won't be an issue. I've been a "no timing belt cover" advocate for a lengthy time now! Will take a third of the time to diagnose and replace a faulty pump...

Re: Overheated and did something stupid
Well after testing we found a small leak up the top of the radiator near the upper coolant hose (coolant temp sensor side of car). Oil was free of coolant, changed to some new oil. Compression was 212 on most cylinders, one was 207 and 205 but that's pretty good. Will be ordering a new radiator soon...

Re: mod to replace distributions
HEI + External coil mod doesn't replace it but makes it far more reliable.

Overheated and did something stupid
Ok so my temp was fine as I check it fairly often, then at some lights I saw some smoke coming from the engine bay (only a bit). Looked at temp needle and it was just below the upper 3/4 line. As I took off slowly it started slowly climbing so I immediately turned my heater on full blast. Then took ...

Tito, why not buy it for $250. Swap the final drive with yours and then sell the gearbox that isn't needed. Even if you lose $100 after selling, still gets you what you want for cheaper.

Re: Mazda MX-3 ECU Swap Help
Your O2 sensors won't just throw codes for no reason. They are most likely shot and in need of replacement. Had the exact same issue with my O2's. The ECU does not change sensor wiring. The only thing that can change from what I have seen is the distributor wiring. You can switch back to the 93 ECU ...

Re: power to manual steering mx-3 v6 1992
The mx3 gs rack has the best ratio. I get that people like the idea of freeing up horse power but deleting accessories but I didn't notice any power loss converting from manual steering to power steering. I ran a manual 323 rack, then a depowered 4 cylinder mx3 rack and then finally said screw it a...

Re: How do I change obd2 to obd1?
The Mx3 isn't a true OBD2 car like your friends WRX. It's a funky change over generation of OBD2. You don't have the same kind of ability to scan and read data like you do on your friends WRX Are you 100% sure about the level of information side of it? Because it seems like people can get plenty of...

Re: Mazda MX-3 ECU Swap Help
Since the newer ECU seems to work fine, baggiespanther19, I'd say you should fix your error codes first. 15 LHO2S inactivation error 16 Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system 17 LHO2S inversion error 23 RHO2S inactivation error PCME Fault Control Moding: When any of codes 15, 17, 23 and 24 are set, ...

Re: Which engine oil? Tyre pressure?
If your engine ticks, fix it. I reckon most the K series V6 ticked right off the production line. Good luck with that :freak: I've been running 5W-30 forever since my rebuild. 0/5/10W-30 will all work similar. They're all 30 weight in essence (when warm). Since your coldest temps are rather c...

Re: How do I change obd2 to obd1?
14.4 lol, that's pretty quick! Get the car dyno'd. See what power it's ACTUALLY making. Check engine codes etc. You know a lot of people are converting to OBD2 to run a MAF setup. I think you can buy an OBD2 scanner on Ebay for less than $20 and it will tell you many things. AFR, codes, RPM etc. My ...

Re: Timing belt kit
It's all the same shite. What I have done, which I consider most important is switch to a manual tensioner. You can look on probetalk or here, some people have made guides on how to make them. Or you can pay for a pre made one. I've run my car without a timing belt cover and a manual tensioner for a...

Re: Official Transmission Swap Information (Update 21/05/201
Wow I am very impressed with the people swapping to taller gears. I have a 4.10 MX-6 gearbox in my ZE and even that is geared far too short. The KL in the MX-3 hardly needs such sort gearing so it's good to see a good solution has been found. I believe I was at 3300-3500 cruising at 110kmph recentl...
