Maybe start by sticking in a 90 amp alternator, see if that smooths out the idle. This is cheap and You will need it anyways if you plan on putting a nice stereo in the car.

Well I had a similar problem before, which turned out to be a combination of faulty o2 sensor, faulty water thermo sensor and a generally underpowered alternator. The low power alternator is going to cause the problems where your idle hunts when breaks or window wipers, or fans are on but generally ...

I hate to worry about gas prices and I really dont care about the price at the pumps to much. Its the other things that really scare me like when those costs trickle down to the price of bread. right now i pay about $3.56 US/g at the pumps or $1.07 CAD/litre and its not a big deal. I pay about $100 ...

Bad compression, or something else?

Had compression tested and it ran in at 140, 135, 95, 140. Sooo not so hot. Even with the bad compression.. the car still could haul some a--. and idle sounded pretty smooth. Drove the car to montreal and back.. put about 1300 kms on it and now the car engine sounds like a motorcycle. *put put put p...

This is your problem.

replace that engine coolant sensor and all the problems you mentioned above will dissapear.. No more stalling, no more engine flooding, no more weezing.

Same thing happened to me and i spent a lot of money trying to figure out what it was.

yah as for slowing down your car... I think of ac as a super charger that just blows the air on your instead of your engine intake :). In the summer as I drive around with the A/C on at all times i often call it my turbo button and press it(turn it off) when i need some extra power for passing cars....

Hadrien: about 2 months ago i was getting about 17MPG. Something things I did initially were new cap, rotor, oil filter, air filter, sparkplug wires.. and that really didnt seem to help all that much. After replacing the O2 sensor, water thermos ensor (engine coolant sensor) and putting in a premium...

Clutch dieing?

Well after road trip to montreal noticed the clutch starting to slip.

Now when i drive in first or 2nd gear the car sounds like a lawn mower... is this a symptom of bad clutch? only sounds bad when in gear.

Fuel economy at different highway speeds

Last week I drove from my home in kitchener, ontario to beautiful montreal, quebec, approximately 600 km away (375 miles). During the trip I knew I would be filling up on gas a few times so I decided to calculate my MPG at different sustained highway speeds. On the way there I drove during the night...

Tried to do mine before i left for montreal, but both bolts were too rusted to budge, was able to get one of the nuts off, but the rest just started to strip as i cranked on them.. sprayed some WD-40 in to let it soak for next time when I try this. I did tighten the bolt at the bottom of the shift r...

More Power now that the weather is better

Parked my car in the garage over the weekend and went away with a friend to London. It had been pretty cold outside when I left but the weather has been great since I got back. Drove my car out of the garage and the 1st gear feels totally different. Clutch doesnt seem to be slipping as much. Really ...
